While I have an idea how I will strengthen and rep air the base of the control stick, it is of poor design. Anyone who remembers the old Atari 2600 CX40 knows that the control stick was make with a plastic that allowed flexibility at the base to prevent this problem occurring. The plastic base of the stick is thin and brittle, with no flexibility. I found at the base of the control stick was cracked (see photos). So I disassembled the joystick to see what the problem was.
